Color photo of the Canaanite Pool

2020 photo of the Canaanite Pool inside Hezekiah’s Tunnel fed by the nearby Gihon Spring.

This pool is deep inside Hezekiah’s Tunnel and is fed by the Gihon Spring which is close by. Almost 4,000 years ago the Canaanites carved this pool from solid rock, and provided water for the city in case of any invasion, or any other reason that they might have need for water. Some experts believe that it was here that Solomon was crowned King of Israel.

“The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon: And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.” 1 Kings 1:33-34
