Color photo of the original Pontius Pilate Inscription stone discovered at the theater at Caesarea Maritima from approximately 30 AD.

Archaeologists were excavating among the ruins at the theater at Caesarea and uncovered this interesting limestone block. On the face is a monumental inscription which is part of a larger dedication to Tiberius Caesar which clearly states that it was from “Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea.”

It reads:
Line One: TIBERIEUM,,
Line Two: (PON) TIUS
Line Three: (PRAEF) ECTUS IUDA (EAE)
