Color photo of the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem. The Jaffa Gate is the main entrance into the Old City from west Jerusalem. Deep under the nearby bridge are the remains of the original Jaffa Gate which was much lower.
The main entrance into the Jerusalem is through the Jaffa Gate. It faces west toward the Mediterranean Sea and the entrance to the promised land. The reconstructed gate was built by Suleiman in 1538. Israeli forces were not able to gain control of the gate until the Six Day War in 1967.
