Color photo of an enlarged reproduction of the Judaea Capta Coin which boasted of the victory when the Romans destroyed and buried Jerusalem in 70 AD.

This coin was made by the emperor Titus Vespasian, it says “Judea Capta.” It was struck in 71 AD just after the destruction of Jerusalem, commemorating its capture. The reverse side depicts a female Jew in an attitude of mourning, seated under a palm tree. Vespasian is standing to the left as a Roman soldier in military dress with spear in one hand and paraxonium in the other, with his helmet near him. “IVDAEA CAPTA” means Judea Captured.
